The format follows: Month/Year, Activity - Explanation of event and reason for this choice.
First 12 Months
0, 4 - Will I breast feed Teagan? Many mothers ask themselves this question and weigh the pros and cons of breastfeeding as well as formula feeding. In my analysis of breast feeding vs formula feeding I concluded that I would breast feed as it's better for both the mother and the infant.
0, 5 - Active and curious about her environment. Curiosity is a natural part of living. Parents must allow children to be able to explore and learn from their own choices and mistakes. They developing their skills by discovering what works as well as trying out a certain still or action to see the outcome (such as throwing a toy across the room).
3, 4 - As infants become more curious I bring Teagan to meet several new people. This includes family and friends that she will be able to see in future years. I feel that this is a good method of encouraging my child to adjust and become more comfortable with many different people.
3, 5 - Teagan is in constant motion and I will continue to play several games and activities to make her aware of her body. This encourages physical development by encouraging her to crawl, stand up, walk, and eventually run.
8, 5 - Sets goal with 2 steps, this shows the cognitive developmental skills. Having this skills allows infants to understand
12, 2 - Teagan is attached to the parents and when someone else tries to hold her she becomes upset. I converse with the person and encourage Teagan to be friendlier.
12, 6 - Enjoys throwing things out of her crib to see what happens. I pick up the toy a couple times but stop shortly afterwards to demonstrate that the returning of an object won't always happen and she must deal with the consequences of throwing the toy away. This is also a part of her developmental cognitive skills.
18, 1 - Needs to be potty trained for daycare/preschool. I praise Teagan for small steps even if nothing is occurring. The other choices involved have a child sit their for hours and making the infant stay in a soiled diaper to "teach them a lesson". I don't believe in punishing my child for not learning how to do something yet.
18, 6 - Takes on problems over her age level. I show an interest and make occasional comments to help to solve it by herself. Allowing her to use her physical, social and cognitive aspects of the problems encourages her to adjust and understand her with little to no help
2 Years Old
2, 1 - Teagan is using telegraphic sentences. I read books to her that she has an interest in to allow her to associate picture and words to develop her cognitive skills. Being able to associate a word with a picture or a picture with a word is helping with her visual and cognitive skills and connecting the two.
2, 3 - Change of daycare, a change of atmosphere will allow Teagan to adjust to her surroundings as well as to the new individuals.
2, 6 - Potty training comes eventually, I feel the child needs to understand what the purpose for this is. Thats why it's important for infants to have some level of cognitive development before this point. Having the ability to know when they need to go and the steps required to complete the task.
2, 8 - Concerned about pleasing and following rules with step by step instructions. This is a wonderful step in the right direction by means of knowing what is right and wrong while also focusing on cognitive development. Adding more steps or more complicated steps ensure that their knowledge and memory expand.
2, 10 - Exploring and sharing things with parents. This aspect clearly demonstrates how the infant is becoming more independence.
